Apple, a company known for its ever-evolving operating system, launched the iOS 14 Beta on the 16th of September 2020. iOS 14 beta loaded with 250 + new features is considered one of the biggest updates until now. So, let’s get onto it.

Home Screen: –

The foremost noticeable change due to the update is its brand-new design for the home screen. Get to know about the iOS emulator for Android. One can easily toggle between two pages by holding onto the dots at the end of a page and sliding your finger on it. Another difference one might notice is the little minus signs on the left corner of the apps. You must be wondering what that sign is for? It’s just a replacement for that cross (x) sign, which was there in the earlier version of iOS 13. One can also enable or disable certain pages from the edit mode by just clicking on the round button in the edit mode. Apart from all the new features to edit the home screen, they also launched six new wallpapers – 3 light and three dark to customize the home screen.

App Library: –

Using this feature, one can remove the app from the home screen without deleting it from the phone. This can be done by holding on to the app that is to be removed and then can remove the app from the home screen by clicking on the ‘Add to library’ option. One can also delete that app by clicking on the ‘Delete’ option. All the apps stored in the App library can be viewed by swiping straight to the last home screen page, and there all the apps are automatically categorized. Also, one feature added in iOS 14 is that by swiping down, one can access all the apps present on the phone in alphabetical order. This feature was already there in Android OS, and now it’s available in IOS too.

Widgets: –

The biggest of all the new features is the widget section on the Home screen. Loaded with tons of widgets, one can add or remove any widgets’ choice from the widget page by clicking on the ‘+’ and ‘- ‘sign. One can add widgets right on the home screen instead of just the widget page and adjust the widget anywhere on the home screen. On long pressing a certain widget and clicking at ‘Edit Widget,’ one can edit the widget details. Using the Drag and Drop function, one can move around the widgets throughout the various home screens. One can also stack more than two widgets on a particular widget and access any of those just by scrolling up and down. To edit this pile of widgets, one can hold onto it and then click on the ‘Edit Stacks’ option from the dropdown menu and edit the widgets’ sequence in which they appear. To delete a particular widget from the stack, one doesn’t need to delete the complete stack. It can be done by clicking on the ‘Delete Widget’ option, which appears on the dropdown menu along with the edit option.

Siri: –

The renowned voice of Apple – Siri is now smarter. Earlier, when activating Siri, it hoards the whole screen, but in the new iOS 14 version, it just covers a small part of the screen at the bottom. Hence, not interrupting any ongoing task. Siri is now capable of answering a greater range of questions capturing information from the internet. Apart from this, Apple has also increased the number of languages understood by Siri for translation purposes. One can also ask Siri to translate words and sentences into 65 language pairs.

Picture in Picture mode: –

Users can now access any video or any Facetime call while using another app by resizing and relocating the mini-app size at any corner of the screen. Thus allowing the user to utilize two apps at the same time.

App Clips: –

Apple also introduced the concept of App Clips. Like video clips where a person can view a short preview of a video, using App Clips, a user can use a particular app without downloading it.

Compact display of Incoming phone calls: –

Whenever one receives a phone call, instead of this taking up the whole screen, it’ll just be displayed at the top part of the home screen. Thus enabling the user to see his screen while acknowledging the incoming call.

Memoji: –

There are new options such as new hairstyles, headwear, and age for the emoji section, along with masks. Also, new emoji stickers such as fist bumps, hugs, and blush are introduced.

Apart from all these new features, Apple has also introduced new updates in the Maps, Safari, Health app, Translation app, Messages, and many more.
